I love a good controversial moment. Mostly because it starts conversation. This week I wanted to talk on two controversial materials in fashion: leather and fur.
Let’s start with the jacket. I don’t love the fur industry in general, I find it wasteful. But— fur is warm. I have argued that it is warmer than a Canada Goose coat— I’ve lent this coat to prove the point. Take a look at the temperature I shot this weeks look in, that’s without a windchill. Other coats can be warm but nothing compares to my Great Aunt’s vintage fur. Here’s my stance: if an animal is going to give it’s life for us (food or fur), we should not be letting any of it go to waste. Plus, you can find fur coats for as low as 15$ in a consignment or second hand store.
Tip: Smell the coat before you buy it. Fur is hair, and hair can retain some really nice smells, and also some horrifying stenches.
Big bag energy. Let’s talk about it. Telfar is a fashion brand that has actually done incredibly well since the beginning of the pandemic. They have become widely known for their unisex items— their shopping bags being the hard hitter here. Tons of people have only good things to say about them. So I had to find out. It should be noted the bags are vegan leather as well. Now, I love leather. It wears well on shoes, and jackets but it’s incredibly durable and a great windbreaker. Leather’s durability is why is so good for shoes and bags. This is a fact. So I was skeptical for vegan leather for a bag I was wanting to use everyday. I was impressed. -30˙c is a real temperature I was dealing with this week and using this bag. Temperatures so low and so harsh can cause most vegan leathers to crack, and crumble. This one actually didn’t, and I was SHOCKED. The temperature didn’t even faze this bag. Nevermind, that I can fit everything I need for a day at work and maybe some gym clothes. I am wearing the Medium size shopping bag.
Even though I prefer shoes to bags, I acknowledged that I needed a new everyday bag. So I went through my checklist. Does it have space for my laptop, day-planner, books, water bottle, lip gloss and snacks? Does it come in a color I can actually wear everyday with everything? Yes, and this bag is living up to it’s expectations. The size guide for Telfar’s bags actually tells you what size of bag can be used for what. I love to see a sensible size guide that makes sense no matter who is reading it.
Telfar releases and restocks their bags in drops. This is the most useful email marketing list I have ever signed up for. EVER. They only send you emails to notify you of a release or re-stock. For releases and re-stocks, don’t be a fool. It’s not a cute look. Set your alarm. Know which size you are going to buy before the drop. These bags sell out in minutes, and getting one will have you sweating. It’s a race to see who can enter their information correctly and checkout the fastest. But you basically can’t breathe until you have your order confirmation. Nothing is promised, until the sacred word of the order confirmation is given.
Shoes are Fendi. Feet are freezing. I really can’t wait for the warmer weather to arrive so that I can wear these a bit more realistically. I’m just a sucker for white boots okay? They are classic but not traditional, and they pair well with anything you wear.

For most people Calgary is only known for the Calgary stampede. This is in the summer, the whole city turns into the WildWest. Literally. Everyone is drunk 24/7 and dresses in Western wear. But during the winter it is known for dramatic weather changes, colder than cold (-50˙c anyone?), and clear blue skies for days.
