Look 06
Details: OVO long sleeve, Raptors basketball jersey, House of CB cupless bustier, Kate & Mel heels.
I wanted to do something a little different this week. I know I’ve been talking lots about more feminine fashions, but masculine clothing is just as important. This week I wanted to showcase using the same pieces to style both in masculine and feminine ways. The intersection between what used to be classic gender norms for wearing clothing is slowly starting to disappear. But we don’t just have Vogue and supermodels reporting fashion trends to us… We also have GQ and athletes contributing to the fashion scene, now more than ever.
Details: Urban Outfitters top, CARMAR LA pants, Nike sneakers, Vintage necklace, I am GIA chain.
To lessen whatever curves I had, I wore the pants lower on my hips, and buttoned the shirt, then put the chain necklace under the collar. Chains necklaces are a staple in a mans wardrobe. This can change a look that is sweatpants from trashy to classy. These pants were actually a gift from a friend because ‘They just looked good on you.’ But the same effect would come from a good pair of baggy black jeans.
The shirt is from Urban Outfitters about 6 years ago. I like it because it has a little bit more flow than us Canadians are used to in flannel. At the time I bought it, it was probably one of the more expensive items in my closet. Oh… How times have changed.
Details: (as above), Lace By Tanaya hoops, Calvin Klein bra.
The bra, classic Calvin Klein. Calvin Klein underwear is not as expensive as everyone thinks it is. Plus, its comfy, cute and lasts forever.
For my more feminine look, I wore the flannel as more of outerwear. Paired with oversized crystallized hoops.
Details: OVO long sleeve, Raptors basketball jersey, CARMAR LA pants, Vans sneakers.
The gameday look was inspired by a Game night date. Think of it as the ‘his and hers’ of outfits.
This shirt was purchased from the OVO Store in Toronto during my very first trip to Toronto. I said it, I’m a Drake fan. The jersey was actually purchased during the same trip.
The feminine version ditches the pants, uses a cupless bustier, and heels of course. Lace up heels to me belong with super short skirts and super baggy outfits. So for this look, it was a no brainer. The bustier was actually and impulse buy from House of CB. I have no regrets, I’ve worn it over shirts, over dresses. It’s a super cute and more unique way to add form or color to an outfit.
I find myself looking at GQ fashion remarks more and more recently. As well as checking out what I like to call ‘Tunnel Vision.’ It’s the mini fashion show casually put on by basketball players as they arrive for a game. The fashion there can be anything from one of a kind couture to sweatpants with limited edition sneakers. It’s all a big deal. Street style is becoming bigger than ever, I find myself looking to both Vogue and GQ now. As people get more and more comfortable wearing whatever they want (Harry Styles in a dress anyone?), I am wanting to engage more with fashion from both sides of gender, but also from different areas of inspiration. Vogue from high fashion and GQ presenting me with street style. They can both present the other’s content, but I think they are good resources together in terms of fashion.
As another fashion week has come to a close I’m feeling more inspired than ever to continue exploring this creative avenue, in both clothing and modelling.
Thanks for reading this far with me!
